Course
Learning Objectives New policy reform
initiatives worldwide are under tremendous pressure worldwide to demonstrate
the intended benefits of their promise to the relevant stakeholders and the
public-at-large. Time and time again, economic, financial and social reform
projects in the energy, water, transportation, telecommunications, solid waste,
industry, health, education, and municipal service sectors are delayed or even
cancelled because those in charge failed to communicate effectively and build
consensus with the specific stakeholders (particularly labor unions, employee
rights groups, and media) as well as the public-at-large.
IP3's introductory course titled Stakeholder
Consultation, Public Awareness and Media Relations Strategies (which
will be conducted in an online environment) provides the opportunity to
train hundreds of participants on the fundamental concepts, tools, techniques,
and models of utility benchmarking. The course contains six modules, with each
module completed over a one-week period of time. Participants are responsible
for completing reading assignments, analyzing case studies, actively
participating in discussion boards and chat rooms with fellow participants and
the course instructor, and completing an action plan. Participants will need
access to a computer with Internet connectivity. Course work is approximately 5
- 6 hours per module/per week. IP3 participants in previous online courses have
found they benefit significantly from the interactive sharing of ideas and
insights.
As a result of taking the
course, participants will develop the appropriate skills to carry out a
communications assessment; design an awareness campaign and develop
materials/budgets; and create monitoring and evaluation tools.
