Learning Objectives
A large majority of government agencies and utilities fail to maximize efficiency due to poor financial planning and proper asset management. As government agencies and public utilities struggle to generate revenues, and have limited access to new financing, a major objective is greater utilization and management of existing and planned assets. In order to improve efficiency and operate with a degree of financial autonomy, managers need to understand how to plan and analyze capital investments and how to assess, rehabilitate, and replace existing assets. Moreover, managers must understand how to manage assets while improving customer service, and how to use innovations in finance and technology to increase revenues, cut costs, and eliminate non productive assets and ageing infrastructure.
IP3’s course on Capital Investment Planning and Asset Management for Government and Public Utility Operations is designed to assist government policy makers, utility managers, and regulators, and infrastructure finance experts plan and implement asset management and rehabilitation strategies. Through practical, process-oriented sessions on how to establish capital investment plans and asset management programs, using case studies of global experience, site visits to US agencies; participants in this program will learn a wide range of financial and asset management skills to improve performance.
“Governments and utilities around the world face many financial and operational challenges. With limited access to finance, most need to rely on greater capital investment planning and better asset management of existing assets to improve performance. Understanding the best practices in asset management and innovations in technology and finance is critical for governments and utilities to modernize.”
