Course
Learning Objectives In the last
decade, a new world economy characterized by globalization and an increased
reliance on technology to drive productivity has emerged. Within this "new
economy", knowledge has become the engine of economic growth and development.
All countries, both emerging and developed, must find ways to identify and use
strategies to accelerate access to technology in order to reap the benefits of
the new economy. The use of various ICT solutions be they e-government,
wireless communications, internet, voice, data, e-learning, etc., has the
potential to radically change the efficiency of an economy and improve both
quality of life and quality of services at the same time. However, many
countries still lack the effective enabling environment to promote the use of
technology and lack the strategic and institutional capacity to identify
appropriate ICT solutions to address a variety of economic and social needs.
To help policy-makers and technicians
better plan, develop, implement, and monitor e-development and ICT initiatives,
IP3 has designed a comprehensive training course titled Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) in Development. In this course,
participants will learn the strategies, techniques and tools to plan and
implement various E-Development and ICT solutions to a wide variety of economic
development challenges. Participants will be exposed to best practices in ICT
assessments and e-readiness plans to address development constraints and breach
the digital divide.
Through
presentations, case studies, and on-site meetings with leading organizations,
participants will gain first-hand knowledge and skills and bring these to bear
in developing their own e-development and ICT Action Plan.

Action Planning
Prior to completing the course, IP3
requires participants to complete an Action Plan detailing how they will
apply their new knowledge and skills on-the-job. IP3 has developed a four-step
process to guide participants in developing their action plans. Our expert
faculty members conducts several action-planning sessions throughout the course
to assist each participant to develop his/her plan. On the last day of the
course, each participant will present his/her action plan to the group for peer
